It got its name from Spanish Conquistador, Alonso Álvarez de Pineda in 1519. He sailed into the bay on the Feast of Corpus Christi. Corpus Christi translates to the body of Christ. The city hosts the fifth largest port in the United States as well as the Corpus Christi International Airport. Many choose to reside in the neighborhoods of Mustang-Padre Island, Calallen, South Side, and Northwest. Tourists and locals alike can't stay away from the unbeatable weather and attractions in the area. The Sparkling City by the Sea features the Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History, In the Game Funtrackers, the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, the Selena Museum, Texas Surf Museum, Texas State Aquarium, Padre Island National Seashore, and more! Baseball enthusiasts can spend the day exploring Whataburger Field, watching the Corpus Christi Hooks, a minor league team owned by the Houston Astros.
